Our Little Story

We are licensed for 33 children, (of which up to 8 can be under 2’s). We take children from 3 months to 5 years.
Our ratios are, for under 2’s 1:4, and for over 2’s 4:25, which is more generous than the legal minimum requirement. At Frog Puddles we are proud to have 80% qualified teachers, plus additional staff, that are not legally required which enable our teachers to offer a higher qualify of care and education for your children.
We have an Under Two room and an Over Two room with teachers who specialise in these age groups.

We have 2 separate outdoor play areas. One which is specifically designed for the under 2 children. It consists of a wooden playhouse, slides, ride in cars, swings and a wonderful sandpit. The entire play area is covered in rubber matting and has great shade cover. Our over two outside area has a lovely big sandpit, a fort with firemans pole, swings and a range of other equipment which is offered to the children. This area is also covered in rubber safety matting and has plenty of shade cover.

We Provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive learning environment, where children’s needs, strengths and interests are valued and catered for. We treat children with respect and see them as capable and competent learners. We believe that children learn through play, active exploration and positive interactions with their teachers and their peers.

The principals and strands of Te Whariki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum underpins our teaching practice.

In our planning we follow individual and group interests that the children present, and respond to these in a creative and reflective manner. we value children’s ideas and aim to foster the development of life long learning disposition.

We value responsive and reciprocal relationships with children, parents/whanau and the wider community.

We celebrate cultural diversity of our community of learners and are committed to implementing bicultrual practices which reflect the cultural heritages of both partners of Te Tiriti of Waitangi.

Frog Puddles childcare centre – ERO Report The Education Review Office (ERO) is a government department whose purpose is to evaluate and report publicly on the education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. ERO’s findings inform decisions and choices made by parents, teachers, managers, trustees and others, at the individual school and early childhood level and at the national level by Government policy makers.

The ERO report had this to say about Froggies: “The centre offers a welcoming, respectful environment for children and their families. Children are provided with challenging and enjoyable learning experiences. The attractive and well resourced learning environment encourages children to extend their interests through exploratory play. Children also enjoy creative and physical play and benefit from rich learning experiences in the well equipped outdoor play areas. Teachers know children and their families very well. They work in partnership with parents and whanau to promote the well being, learning and interests of each child. Babies are particularly well cared for and benefit from a warm and encouraging environment that allows them to explore their surroundings. Older children benefit from the support teachers provide to help them make a smooth transition to schools in the local community.”

The Teachers at Frog Puddles childcare center ensure planning will cover all areas of development (including the individual needs and interests of the children), and be inclusive of the early childhood curriculum Te Whaariki. Teachers encourge quality interactions and professional relationships with the children in a stimulating and varied environment.

We provide a daily transition to school program call leap frog for the 4 1/2 year old children. This involves a formal, small group time lead by one teacher, in the afternoon. Children are given opportunities to further build upon their interests and develop skills, awareness of letters, mathematical and scientific concepts.

At Frog Puddles we offer on-line portfolios (We also have a hard copy of the portfolios for the children to look through).

The on-line portfolios enables you to look at your child’s learning at any time, and also has the ability to add other family members whom you may wish to view your child’s learning. Teachers will record observations of your child, which will include photos. You will receive an email when a new story has been added for you to view. The hard copy will be given to your child to keep when they leave Froggies and are available for you to view at all times. We encourage family/whanau to have input into portfolios because we value your knowledge and aspirations.

Stem Philosophy-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).STEM is about exploring the world around us and asking questions about how or why something works. At Frog Puddles, we enhance children’s knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics everyday by providing them different resources, time, space and opportunities to sort (size, colour, shape, type), create, investigate, build etc. We present opportunities to children to learn about the same material in different settings and through different lenses.
We support children to integrate knowledge across disciplines, encouraging them to think in a more connected, creative and holistic way.

“A safe and nurturing environment with caring staff that are passionate about their work!”

Hillary Nicolson December 15, 2015

“We are so glad that we found Frog Puddles!! Thank you to all the lovely caring staff for looking after our precious poppet so well. You not only provide a safe, welcoming environment but you support our decisions and encourage our little one’s independence too. Thank you so very much for your time, your passion and your commitment to caring for our little one so well, she’s grown so much and loves every second at Froggies with her friends and lovely teachers! I would absolutely recommend Frog Puddles to anyone looking for nurturing, welcoming and safe care for their child.”

Chelene Fourie December 15, 2015

“From the moment our son started, the teachers have been very warm, friendly and approachable. They made him the focus of our visits which immediately made us feel comfortable. They are open to following the babies routines with eating and sleeping. The daily reports set our minds at ease and informed us on how our son was coping with the change of being home with mum to a new environment. He loves how stimulating and social his area is and often doesn’t want to leave at the end of the day. He has had so many different and varied learning opportunities provided for him and his knowledge and development is constantly expanding. We are so pleased with our choice in childcare. Thank you!”

“We have been part of the Froggies family for the last 7 years and will truly miss it as our youngest heads off to school.
The amazing staff are friendly and approachable and genuinely care about each of the children. They offer a wide range of activities following the children’s interests. Mine particularly enjoyed learning about the local area and making volcanoes in the sandpit!
We highly recommend Frog Puddles as a safe, caring and nurturing environment for any child.”

Findlay Family December 15, 2015

“Ava is our second child to attend Frog Puddles. Ava has nearly been there a year and Ashley spent 4 years there before heading off to school.
It’s a good feeling when you know your child is somewhere safe and being looked after with much love.
I especially love how there is only a baby side and older kids side, makes it a lot easier when your child only needs to transition once.
Frog Puddles is like a second home to my girls.”

Armstrong Family December 15, 2015

Froggies has a very balanced structure with the ability to adapt to any childs routine. The teachers genuinely care for the children and are always offering ways of helping the childrens natural development.
Our 18mth old loves the various activities, games, mat times and music – Froggies have created a fantastic fun safe atmosphere for learning and we highly recommend them.”
