We Provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive learning environment, where children’s needs, strengths and interests are valued and catered for. We treat children with respect and see them as capable and competent learners. We believe that children learn through play, active exploration and positive interactions with their teachers and their peers.
The principals and strands of Te Whariki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum underpins our teaching practice.
In our planning we follow individual and group interests that the children present, and respond to these in a creative and reflective manner. we value children’s ideas and aim to foster the development of life long learning disposition.
We value responsive and reciprocal relationships with children, parents/whanau and the wider community.
We celebrate cultural diversity of our community of learners and are committed to implementing bicultrual practices which reflect the cultural heritages of both partners of Te Tiriti of Waitangi.
Frog Puddles childcare centre – ERO Report The Education Review Office (ERO) is a government department whose purpose is to evaluate and report publicly on the education and care of students in schools and early childhood services. ERO’s findings inform decisions and choices made by parents, teachers, managers, trustees and others, at the individual school and early childhood level and at the national level by Government policy makers.
The ERO report had this to say about Froggies: “The centre offers a welcoming, respectful environment for children and their families. Children are provided with challenging and enjoyable learning experiences. The attractive and well resourced learning environment encourages children to extend their interests through exploratory play. Children also enjoy creative and physical play and benefit from rich learning experiences in the well equipped outdoor play areas. Teachers know children and their families very well. They work in partnership with parents and whanau to promote the well being, learning and interests of each child. Babies are particularly well cared for and benefit from a warm and encouraging environment that allows them to explore their surroundings. Older children benefit from the support teachers provide to help them make a smooth transition to schools in the local community.”
The Teachers at Frog Puddles childcare center ensure planning will cover all areas of development (including the individual needs and interests of the children), and be inclusive of the early childhood curriculum Te Whaariki. Teachers encourge quality interactions and professional relationships with the children in a stimulating and varied environment.
We provide a daily transition to school program call leap frog for the 4 1/2 year old children. This involves a formal, small group time lead by one teacher, in the afternoon. Children are given opportunities to further build upon their interests and develop skills, awareness of letters, mathematical and scientific concepts.
At Frog Puddles we offer on-line portfolios (We also have a hard copy of the portfolios for the children to look through).
The on-line portfolios enables you to look at your child’s learning at any time, and also has the ability to add other family members whom you may wish to view your child’s learning. Teachers will record observations of your child, which will include photos. You will receive an email when a new story has been added for you to view. The hard copy will be given to your child to keep when they leave Froggies and are available for you to view at all times. We encourage family/whanau to have input into portfolios because we value your knowledge and aspirations.
